The Gastric Cancer Fund continues to benefit from very successful grassroots events around the country. Below is a snapshot of two recent activities earlier this summer. Special thanks to all the individuals who made these events such a tremendous success.
And remember, one great way to get involved in fighting gastric cancer is to host your own event. Use the event to honor a loved one and raise money to help us increase research dollars in an effort to put an end to this terrible disease. Many others have done it, so can you!
On June 20, 2011, family and friends of Ernie Pierce spent a wonderful day at the River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma. The objective of the event was two-fold: first to honor and remember a fantastic man, Ernie Pierce, as well as to emulate his faith, integrity and love for his fellow man. Second was to raise money to fight gastric cancer, the terrible disease that took Ernie from his family, with an early afternoon, 4-person competitive golf scramble and evening dinner and silent auction.
Once again, the event was a wild success. For the second year in a row, through the generosity of family, friends and many local sponsors, the event raised over $18,000 for the Gastric Cancer Fund. This money will be critical as we continue to execute on our research goals. We thank Lesley Bloese and her family for their continued dedication and support. We look forward to the 3rd Annual EP Classic on June 18, 2012.
Karen Prinz was a dear friend to many and mother of three beautiful daughters. Her life ended way too early on January 1, 2009, after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. Karen would have celebrated her 50th birthday in July of 2011. A fundraiser was held on Friday, July 8th to celebrate Karen’s life and to remember other special people in our lives who have and continue to battle gastric cancer.
The event was held at Mickey Finn’s in Libertyville, Illinois and included food, drinks, live music and a silent auction. The event was a TREMENDOUS success, far exceeding all expectations by raising approximately $20,000 for the Gastric Cancer Fund. We deeply appreciate the efforts of Sue Karich, who organized this meaningful tribute to her friend and made an important contribution to the fight against gastric cancer.
