Published on: Mar 26, 2009

March 26, 2009 — The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation’s leading cancer research fundraising organizations, is proud to announce a partnership with The Gastric Cancer Fund. The organizations are joining forces to raise funds throughout the United States and help fight gastric cancer through education, research, support and advocacy.

“The V Foundation is always looking to expand our mission by working with promising organizations that we can collaborate with on funding research projects,” said Nick Valvano, CEO of The V Foundation. “By combining the efforts of two organizations who share a common goal, such as The V Foundation and The Gastric Cancer Fund, we have developed a powerful team in the fight against cancer.”
“We are thrilled to be able to work with The V Foundation to fight this terrible disease,” said J.P. Gallagher, Chairman of Board of Directors of The Gastric Cancer Fund. “After researching the industry in an effort to understand the best way to create a foundation, it quickly became clear The V Foundation is the gold standard in fundraising and scientific review. The support and expertise we will receive from The V Foundation will be critical to achieving our mission.”

The first initiative of The Gastric Cancer Fund will be to establish the country’s first gastric cancer registry. The registry will aggregate all pertinent data on gastric cancer patients and serve as a resource in developing strategies for its detection, treatment and prevention. In addition to basic statistical analysis and research, the registry will also leverage a high performance computing system to help conduct state of the art genomic sequencing of gastric cancer tissue and patient DNA samples. The organization will leverage scientific and technical expertise to help better understand the genomic make-up of the gastric cancer cell, with the goal of trying to isolate and eliminate it.
