A Gastric Celebration

Our first gala fundraiser, "A Gastric Celebration" was held on December 5, 2009 at Thomas Fogarty Winery in Woodside California.  In addition to serving an array of award-winning wines, the facility provided stunning views of the Bay Area.  A sellout crowd of 150 people enjoyed great wine, food and company.  The evening started with wine tasting, a silent auction and cooking demonstration from Next Food Network Star celebrity chefs Hans Rueffert and Michael Thomas.

After a fantastic three course dinner, JP Gallagher reviewed the origins of the organization and mission.  Dr. James Ford presented the organization’s research objectives and provided insight into some of the recent progress made against gastric cancer.  Rob Salmon, Executive Vice President of Field Operations at NetApp, spoke about the company’s commitment to helping the Gastric Cancer Fund fight this disease.

We would like to give special thanks to our corporate sponsors – NetApp, Yahoo!, G2 and Capital Guardian Trust – who all made financial contributions to support the event.  Also, the evening would not have been possible without the time and generosity of special donors and volunteers, most notably Pat Gallagher, Arleen Gallagher and Ross Kemp.  In total, the event raised over $40,000 for gastric cancer research and educated 150 people on this little known disease that is killing far too many of our loved ones every year. We’ve built a growing base of support in the bay area that will hopefully only expand over the years.  Please enjoy the photos of the evening below.
