J.P. GallagherIn addition to being a gastric cancer survivor, JP Gallagher brings a host of for-profit and non-profit experience to the Gastric Cancer Fund. JP is currently the director of marketing at NetApp, a market leader in network storage systems. At NetApp, JP is responsible for driving global marketing campaigns and demand generation strategy for the $3B+ company. Prior to NetApp, JP held senior marketing positions at Panasas, Inc and Compaq Computer Corporation.
Throughout his career, JP has constantly been involved in the non-profit sector. For the past 6 years JP served on the board of directors of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC): Southwest, an organization that offers people an opportunity to work and live with the poor and marginalized in society. For the past four years, JP was elected chairman of the board of JVC: Southwest, which has placed more than 2,000 volunteers in social service agencies and low-income schools throughout California and Arizona. JP also has volunteer experience with The Volunteer Center, Habitat for Humanity and Houston Area Women’s Shelter.
JP earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Gonzaga University and a Master of Business Administration with concentrations in marketing and public/non-profit management from the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management at Rice University.
Wayne FeinsteinWayne Feinstein is a senior vice president and investment counselor for Capital Guardian Trust Company’s Personal Investment Management division and a vice president of Capital Guardian Trust Company, a Nevada Corporation. Prior to joining our Capital Guardian Trust in 2001, he was CEO of GrantConnect.
Prior to that, Wayne spent over 20 years leading large nonprofit organizations, including overseeing the development and investment of endowment funds totaling more than $1 billion. He also served 18 years as CEO of various Jewish Community Federations in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Detroit. Wayne serves on the Boards of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at UCSF, the UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare, and The Arthur Szyk Society.
Wayne earned an MA from Hebrew Union College, a BA from Colgate University and a professional designation in financial planning from the University of California at Berkeley.
Dr. James FordJim Ford is a medical oncologist and geneticist at Stanford University Medical Center. Ford graduated in 1984 Magna Cum Laude (Biology) from Yale University where he later received his M.D. degree from the School of Medicine in 1989. He has been intern (1989-90) and resident (1990-91) of internal medicine, Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology (1991-94), Research Fellow of Biological Sciences (1993-97), Assistant Professor of Medicine (Oncology) and Genetics (1998-2006), Director of the Stanford Oncology Fellowship Training Program, and Director of the Stanford Cancer Genetics Clinic, at the Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Ford is currently Associate Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics and Genetics, and Director, Stanford Program for Clinical Cancer Genetics.
Dr. Ford's goals are to understand the role of genetic changes in cancer genes in the risk and development of common cancers. He discovered that the p53 and BRCA1 tumor suppressor genes regulate DNA repair, and has developed novel assays to examine DNA repair activity in primary human tissues. He is developing techniques for high-throughput genomic analyses of cancer to identify molecular signatures for targeted therapies.
Dr. Ford's honors and awards include the Etta S. Chidsey Award in Cancer Research from the Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center (1987), Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research Scholar Award (1999), Doris Duke Foundation Clinical Scientist Award in Cancer Etiology and Pathogenesis (1999), Burroughs-Wellcome Fund New Investigator Award in Toxicology (2000), and the V Foundation Translational Research Award. Dr. Ford is an Editor for the journals Cancer Research and DNA Repair, is on the Scientific Review Committee for the V Foundation for Cancer Research, and a Council Member of the California Breast Cancer Research Program.
David GroganDavid Grogan is the retired Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Toter, Incorporated, the leading supplier of wheeled, rollout carts used for curbside automated waste and recycling collection in North America with over 22 million carts in use today. Prior to starting Toter, David was the Vice President and General Manager of the rotational molding division of Rubbermaid, Incorporated. Prior to that, David held several marketing and sales management positions at Rubbermaid.
In addition to his highly successful business career, David has dedicated considerable time to non-profit organizations throughout North Carolina. David is currently the board president of the United Way of Iredell County, North Carolina. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Iredell Memorial Hospital, sits on the board of Teen Health Inc and is a founding member of the Boys and Girls Club of Iredell County.
David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Washington and Lee University and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Hans RueffertHans Rueffert is an acclaimed chef, author, educator, television producer and gastric cancer survivor. Shortly after finishing third in the Next Food Network Star television series in 2005, Hans was diagnosed with stage-three stomach cancer. He lost most of his stomach and esophagus to the disease, but is currently four years cancer free. In addition to his time on the Food Network, Hans has hosted and produced several cooking shows throughout the south, most notably, Hans Cooks the World and Hans Cooks the South.
After his diagnosis, Hans published Eat Like There’s No Tomorrow, a cookbook that included a collection of original recipes, photographs and narratives. In the book, he shares his gastric cancer story as well as thoughts on healthy eating, optimism and life. In addition, Hans mentors gastric patients through both the MD Anderson Network and Imerman Angels and teaches regularly at the Cancer Wellness Center at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Hans received his MA in Hospitality Management from Georgia State University and lives in Georgia.
